Cappella della Pia Congregazione dei Banchieri e dei Mercanti. + My Favorites
The Chapel of the Pious Congregation of Merchants and Bankers is not easy to get to. Cut through the Ancient Cloisters (Antichi Chiostri) to get to this 1692 chapel, decorated with expert frescoes and the owner of a universal mechanical clock. Basilica di Superga + My Favorites
In 1706, Sicilian architect Filippo Juvarra was commissioned to build this church, which also serves as gravekeeper for many members of the Savoy family, whose tombs are abundant below the main chapel. Address: Strada della Basilica di Superga 73 | Turin, TO [ Map ] Tel: +39 (0) 11 8980083
Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista) + My Favorites
No visit to this city is complete without a visit to the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, a fine example of baroque architecture and where one of Christianity's holiest artifacts, the Shroud of Turin, is usually kept. It is said by believers to be the cloth that wrapped the body of Christ after the crucifixion, and bears his ghostly image. If not here, the controversial Shroud may be found around the corner at the Holy Shroud Museum. Address: Piazza San Giovanni | Turin, TO [ Map ] Tel: +39 (0) 11 436154
